BEYOND SHARED HOSTING

Why move to a VPS?

01

Configure your software

Choose supported services, tools and packages with server-level access.

02

Resources you can compare

Make a practical choice using the listed vCPU, RAM and NVMe resources.

03

Run a custom project

Host applications, APIs and development workloads that need more than typical shared hosting.

04

Take responsibility knowingly

Understand maintenance, security, backup and management needs before deciding.

03 / MIGRATION JOURNEY

Move with a roadmap.
Not a rush.

Moving to a new VPS takes planning. From checking your current setup to testing the new server, here's how to make each step count.

YOUR MIGRATION ROUTEFour checkpoints · one considered move
CURRENTExisting server NEXTYour VPS
01 / REVIEW

Map the workload

Identify the websites, databases, DNS, email services and software versions involved.

  • Record versions and DNS settings
  • Note what cannot break during cutover
02 / PROTECT

Back up & test

Create a recoverable copy and check that the destination environment is compatible.

  • Test backup restoration
  • Check panel, OS and software fit
03 / TRANSFER

Transfer & verify

Move the data carefully and confirm application behaviour before live traffic is redirected.

  • Transfer files and databases
  • Plan rollback and DNS cutover
04 / MONITOR

Check after launch

Monitor logs, traffic, transactions and errors after the migration goes live.

  • Inspect logs and critical flows
  • Keep recovery notes until stable

THE VPS DIFFERENCE

More control over what you run.

Shared hosting makes everyday publishing simple. A virtual private server gives you a separate server environment with assigned resources and greater flexibility to configure your stack.

A VPS is not automatically faster than shared hosting. The resources, underlying infrastructure, application code and setup still matter.

REAL QUESTIONS, USEFUL ANSWERS

VPS hosting questions, answered.

Choosing a virtual server involves more than pricing. Here are the practical details worth checking first.

Still unsure? Talk to us ↗
What is VPS hosting, and how is it different from shared hosting?

VPS hosting (Virtual Private Server hosting) provides a separate virtual server environment with an assigned allocation of computing resources. Shared hosting is often easier for ordinary websites because the provider manages more of the environment. A VPS offers more control over server software and configuration, making it useful for applications, APIs and custom stacks. It is not automatically faster for every website: real performance depends on the resources, host infrastructure and application setup. If you simply need to publish a blog or business site, compare our web hosting plans before choosing a VPS.

How much does cheap VPS hosting in India cost at LumoHosting?

The latest VPS rates are shown in the plan cards above and are read from our central pricing configuration. Use the monthly, one-year or two-year billing selector to see the monthly equivalent and total billed for your selected term. Longer billing periods may require payment for the complete term upfront. Confirm taxes, renewal rates and any optional services before ordering. Compare current VPS prices.

Which VPS plan should I choose for my website, app or online store?

Choosing a VPS starts with your software requirements, background processes, traffic patterns and memory needs. Compare the vCPU, RAM and NVMe storage allocations in the plan cards and comparison table above; these values come from the current plan feature lists. A small application may be able to start with fewer resources, while a busier store or API could need more headroom. These specifications are not traffic guarantees, because caching, database usage and application code also affect performance. If you are unsure, describe your workload to LumoHosting before purchasing.

Do your VPS plans offer root access and a choice of operating system?

The current plan listings include root access; confirm the access method for your selected plan before ordering. It gives you administrative control to configure the server, install supported software and manage application services. Root access also makes server security and maintenance important. Check the comparison table for which plans explicitly list a choice of operating system; confirm available distributions and versions before ordering. Before ordering, confirm which operating systems and versions are available for the plan you want, whether a control panel can be installed and whether any licences cost extra.

Is NVMe VPS hosting a good choice for WordPress or WooCommerce?

A VPS with NVMe storage can be useful for WordPress and WooCommerce when you need custom server settings, control over caching or additional capacity for databases and background tasks. NVMe describes a storage technology, not a promise of a particular page speed. Your site’s performance still depends on CPU, RAM, plugins, themes, caching and traffic. Running a VPS usually involves more administration than standard WordPress hosting. If server-level access is unnecessary, consider WordPress Hosting first. If you need custom services, compare the VPS resources and ask which management responsibilities remain yours.

Are VPS backups, control panels and security management included?

The current LumoHosting VPS feature lists do not explicitly state backup frequency, bundled control panels, managed operating-system updates or malware monitoring. We therefore do not advertise these as included. Plan for backups and test restores before putting important data on a server. You should also consider firewall rules, strong access controls, updates and monitoring. Ask our team whether backups, restore help, panel licences and security management are available, what each option costs, and which tasks you must perform yourself. For business-critical services, clarify recovery expectations before deployment.

What is the difference between VPS hosting and Managed VPS?

With a self-managed VPS, you generally handle server configuration, updates, security, monitoring and application administration. Managed VPS means the provider handles an agreed set of administrative tasks, but that scope varies by service and may not include your application or custom code. LumoHosting’s current VPS pricing data lists root access but does not define an included management package. If you prefer assistance, ask about Managed VPS. We recommend confirming the supported operating systems, maintenance tasks, response channels, backup responsibilities and exclusions in writing before selecting a plan.

Can I migrate an existing website or application to a VPS?

Many projects can move to a VPS, but the process depends on the current hosting platform and your software. A migration can involve site files, databases, environment variables, scheduled tasks, SSL certificates, email routing and DNS changes. Make a tested backup, plan for compatibility checks and decide how you would roll back if a problem occurs. Migration assistance is not explicitly listed in the current VPS plan features, so please confirm whether help is available and whether there is a charge. Stores and applications with active transactions may need special care to avoid losing new data during the move.

Are the VPS servers located in India, and what bandwidth is included?

Although this page targets people comparing VPS hosting in India, the current VPS plan specifications do not list an actual server location, bandwidth allowance, port speed or traffic policy. We should not promise an India data centre or unlimited transfer without confirmed information. If your customers are primarily in India, ask which server regions are available and consider how latency affects your application. Also confirm transfer limits, public IP availability, network charges and any restrictions before ordering. These details matter for APIs, media delivery and services that exchange substantial amounts of data.

Can I upgrade a VPS later as my project grows?

LumoHosting currently lists VPS Start, Grow and Scale with progressively higher vCPU, RAM and NVMe storage. An upgrade may make sense when monitoring reveals persistent resource pressure or when new features require a larger environment. However, the present plan data does not specify whether upgrades happen without downtime, whether IP addresses remain unchanged or how billing adjustments work. Ask LumoHosting to explain the upgrade process, backups, possible downtime and available downgrade options. Choosing capacity based on your actual application needs is usually better than purchasing the largest plan immediately.
