First, make a safe copy. Next, prepare and test it on the new hosting. Only then change where your domain points. Here's what that journey looks like.
Email accounts, DNS records, domain registration and software licenses may require separate steps. We'll clarify the scope before any service is arranged.
The right process depends on the software and access you have today. Choose the closest starting point.

A practical post-migration review looks at what visitors and staff actually use—not just whether the homepage opens.
For busy stores or frequently updated sites, plan how to handle orders, comments or database changes during the final switch. A test copy can become outdated while the original site remains active.

12 helpful answersWebsite migration means moving the files, data and configuration needed to serve your website from one environment to another. With a hosting-only move, your domain and public URLs can stay the same while the destination server changes. The work may involve files, databases, application settings, SSL, DNS and testing. A domain-name or URL change is a different kind of migration and can also require redirects and additional SEO planning.
Usually yes. Your domain registration and website hosting are separate services. You can often leave the domain registered where it is and update the necessary DNS records to point to the new server. First confirm where DNS is managed and whether email or other services rely on existing records.
Some moves can be completed with little or no noticeable interruption if the destination is prepared, the website is tested and updates are carefully coordinated. However, zero downtime cannot be promised for every site. Dynamic stores, rapidly changing databases, DNS caching, software incompatibilities and mail routing can complicate the cutover. Agree on an appropriate maintenance and rollback plan for critical sites.
A typical WordPress migration includes backing up the site files and database, preparing a compatible destination, importing the data and verifying configuration before switching DNS. Check PHP versions, plugins, themes, permalinks, SSL, login access and forms. An installer or migration plugin may help, but large or customised sites can require additional work.
A full cPanel account transfer may be possible when the current account, backup method and destination permissions support it. Website-only copying is different from restoring a full hosting account. Email, databases, cron jobs, SSL and DNS may require explicit checks. The exact scope and whether LumoHosting can perform the transfer must be confirmed in advance.
Changing only your hosting provider while keeping the same visible URLs does not inherently require changing canonical URLs or redirecting every page. Still, crawling or rankings can be disrupted if the new site returns errors, blocks indexing, serves incomplete content or performs poorly. Check key pages, redirects, robots settings, canonical tags and Google Search Console before and after switching. If URLs or the domain change, separate redirect and mapping work is needed.
There is no universal timeline. Small websites with straightforward access can be simpler, while large databases, stores, email transfers and custom apps need more planning and testing. DNS updates may be observed at different times because of caching. Ask for an estimate based on your actual setup instead of relying on a generic promise of instant transfer.
Not necessarily. Your website and email can run with different providers. Before changing nameservers or DNS, record the existing MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC settings and identify the actual email provider. If your mailbox is hosted with the current web host, decide whether to migrate email, keep that provider or use another email service.
For a period, some visitors may reach the old server while others reach the new server because their DNS resolvers cache results. This is why it is useful to keep both environments available and to avoid uncontrolled changes to live databases during the transition. Check site functionality and relevant server logs before closing the old account.
Migration assistance and pricing depend on the selected hosting plan, the source platform, account access, site complexity and the work requested. This page does not promise a free or managed migration. Contact LumoHosting for a written confirmation of what is included and whether any service fees apply.
Typically, you should know your domain registrar, DNS provider, current hosting panel, website software and whether email is hosted alongside the site. Depending on the agreed method, temporary access or backup files may be needed. Avoid sending passwords through ordinary email or public forms; agree on a secure access-sharing method.
Check important pages, images, navigation, HTTPS, forms, login areas, email delivery, database changes, scheduled jobs, redirects and analytics. For an online store, test checkout and transactional messages. Monitor Search Console and server errors, keep your backup available, and cancel old hosting only after you have verified the new environment.
