Understand domain verification, MX records, and why changing website DNS can interrupt email.
Start with the checks below. Each step explains what to look for and what to try next.
Before changing DNS
Have access to the Google Admin console and your authoritative DNS provider. Record your existing MX and TXT values before changing anything.

Complete the domain verification steps in your Google Admin console.
Back up MX and authentication records before editing.
Use current Google Workspace values from official Admin documentation.
Send and receive from external mailboxes and monitor bounces.
Before you continue: Do not assume that the MX values in an older tutorial are current; follow the active Google Admin instructions.
Complete verification and routing
- Follow Google Admin’s domain verification instructions and add the requested verification record at your DNS provider.
- In Google Admin, find the current Gmail activation instructions for your domain.
- Replace or update MX records exactly as Google currently specifies, then save.
- Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC as recommended for your sending services.
- Test inbound and outbound delivery after DNS changes propagate.
Prevent downtime
Do not copy old MX values from a random tutorial; follow the values shown in your Google Admin setup for the account. Ensure old cPanel mailboxes are backed up if changing providers.

- Repeat the original action that produced the issue.
- Check the result in a second browser or network when relevant.
